I know this is a newby question but does the oxalic acid bath get rid of surface rust?
I have a frame i want to polish up but it has a little surface rust on it.

Yes it does.  Some-one like Coasty might be able to show some before and after photos.

Thanks James. This is one I have done recently. If it's real bad you will still need to polish it with Autosol or Mothers.
Bully Freestyle frame belonged to a mate from work.

Another method which I often use is, first wash the part down with a strong mix of CLR cleaner (this also contains Oxalic Acid), if you have a soft copper or brass wire brush give the part a light rub, then get some auto paint cutters(like polish but a bit harsher) on a tooth brush and rub in a gentle swirl motion until removed, this is really good around bottom brackets and in gussets etc. Make sure you dont rub to hard for to long as it might dull chrome (practice on an old frame first). The next step is to buff with some Autosol to bring back the shine. Sounds easy Tongue

All that being said Oxalic Acid is good stuff when used correctly but make sure you wash it off properly afterwards (wash it down with vinegar then flush with water)

My bath was looking a bit gruby so I popped down to Bunnings and picked up some more. I took a picture to help people identify it  Cheesy .
I't was about $25 and this will make easy 40ltrs? or so, Note- the directions state 250g per 1ltr but I just mix it till it desolves(no solid sludge in bottom of mixing container) it may be a little weaker but fills a bigger tank, also not as agressive, but you may have to soak longer. I also mix it in a small bucket first then add to the empty tank.
Here is the pictures from Scoresby Bunnings 1467 Ferntree Gully Rd. Hope this helps.
Jarvi - If your still having trouble getting it, give us a yell and I can pick some up for you, I will be at the next StKilda swapmeet.

Here it is with the yellow circle

Here is my mate getting it down for me

Guys if you can hang on for a week or two Im ordering a large shipment of 100% OA crystals-I need just 2kg(makes 80-160 litres according to Ted Carl) am happy to offload the rest to whoever wants. Cost should be under $5/kg.  Monaro-youve done right using your own ratio as the bottle directions are too strong for metal. Up to 20 times to strong. And it can be reused over and over-we could have acid bath parties!

Somehow an acid bath party doesn't sound nearly as much fun as say a jelly wrestling party. Unless of course by acid you mean a 60s drug where everyone is sitting in a bath...

Thanks Matt. Will sort out the time later in the week.
