With the continued growth and interest in Old School BMX getting stronger by the day and more Old School shows popping up all over Australia, I was thinking maybe it’s time we should get a bit more organised.
Ok we have the Retro Race thing happing, but as we all know not everyone wants to race and that’s fair enough and then of course there are the collectors and the people who just love Old School BMX.
What I’m suggesting is perhaps a AOSBMXA  (Australian Old School BMX Association) This would be a total NON PROFIT thing whose main aims would be to have a Australian wide membership, help coordinate old school events around the country, a calendar of yearly events, anyway you get my drift
Now before some of you start howling me down, this is only a suggestion I’m throwing out there, you maybe interested you may not. Anyways think about it and let’s hear your thoughts.
Just so you know, I am posting this thread on other sites as well.

Cheers Warren

Well I think it might be good BUT.
With all the dramas with the last retro race series I can't see the two parties (they know who they are) coming together for anything. Too many egos and people looking for a quick $$$. I know you said non-profit but someone will find a way.

i like it how it is.........informal  Wink

edit... the reason i say this is before bmx i was quite involved in a ford GT club. most of our best runs were done without officildom from the powers that be on the commitee.

I like the laidback style at Robertos. I can't imagine he'd be too happy having someone organize it for him.

I'd say something more like a standalone website with calender that all websites etc have access to via a committee (1-2 administrators of the current or new websites), which can link from each individual site so everyone can stay with the oldschool website they love but still get the info from the others on events etc. Things can then be organised hopefully without clashing.

Events like Roberto's just get put on a calender and are organised as normal.

Nothing too formal just an Oldschool (with just a little mid  Roll Eyes  Grin ) calender really.

There's my 2 bobs worth!

ps. It costs about $151 to register a name to become an incorporated assossiation as we just went through it for the bmx club.

Cheers

Adrian-I didnt really think your above post was very constructive. Yeah I know vos is 'banned' from overthere but Ive found Xav to be a VERY charitable guy. Maybe there needs to be some meetings betwen vos and oz and eventually rebuild the relationship & help each other. Relationships take time.

Getting your pm box deleted-sort it out quick-if there is no good explanation Kick up a stink straight away!

I don't believe that there is a problem, well at least there wasn't. I don't know why the word vos is banned as it wasn't and Xav also had a link on his site to here.
I have conversations with Xav at times. We have tried to build a relationship with ozbmx but for some reason it just does not seem to work (I am not blaming anyone here or there).
We will continue to operate for BMX and as such we will not ban other site names and we will allow them to advertise events on here.

That being said, Waz, I love your enthusiasm. We have a calendar on here, so if you would like to chase up the dates for all the events, I can put them in the calendar and link them to appropriate threads with information aout the events. Those threads will then have the flyers put in them.

Cheers

Phil

I think your way out of line with that comment Adrian and this is exactly the reason why the 2 sites will not join.

i understood your thread mate, i just don't reckon we need to be formalised.
another thing i'm against is joining a club (for a fee) that may be geographically impossible for a lot of members to attend. just my opinion of course, but could prove successful for majorities that choose to live in the big 3 east coast cities.
