I recently bought a mongoose frame off ebay with serial numbers CA0 28****, I know its a 1980 mongoose, not a team or supergoose, but is it a motomag?

My plan is to build up a chrome and yellow theme goose.

This is the frame as i got it. the frame was dull and had some surface rust in the usual places but otherwise in very good condition.

since i have gotten the frame i have also gotten the following pars:
NOS yellow BMX labeled seat
NOS AME yellow grips
NOS GT bars
A restored (polished) SR stem
Suntour seat clamp in gold
NOS layback seat pole
NOS Tange 1200 forks

I have also since polished the frame using monaro's method with CLR, cutters, and autosol.

Here it is so far.

Great stuff mate!! you sure got the sparkle back into that frame, I love nickle when its polished up, has that smokey chrome look. What are you going to do for brakes and wheels? some yellow tuffs would look cool if you can get your hands on some. (I'm chasing a set also for my Supermax,  anyone?).

Cheers guys,

I am in the middle of restoring some yellow tuffs at the moment, they have the metal hub and are coaster brake. also picked up an original mongoose one piece crank and spider. Wil just need some gold pedals, chain and i was thinking of black gum wall comp III style tyres.
My only problem is weather to put motomag stickers or mongoose stickers!!!!
How can you tell between the two?

Lookin' good mate. Try HERE for tyres. http://home.comcast.net/~rinienterprises/

Go with all black original MX tyres like these below, or a Comp 3 skin wall, Cheng Shin do a good skinwall tyre, and you can get them at a reasonable price. Gumwalls just don't do it justice.   Grin

Haven't had good experiences with Alans lately. I know of three (including me) people where they couldn't process our creditcards. Won't accept paypal unless a confirmed address which is impossible for people with Australian accounts. When I ended up using a mate's card it took over 10 days just to get the authorisation. So combine the hassle, with expensive UK postage costs, with the exchange rate, and the fact the shipping they list at checkout time is only for the UK (no mention on the page) I've pretty much had it with them.

Ginny's is probably a better option all around however I don't think she is taking orders at the moment because of redoing the site or something. Of course no mention on the site and it's only after you've put all the details together in an email that you get a return email telling you they can't fulfill it at the moment.

Well that's my rant about online shopping finished. If you can wait definitely go with Ginny's. Reasonable to deal with and those tyres Gnarley mentioned are very well priced.

Yep i hear what your saying Jarvi it took 3 months for me to get a order from allans and i went throught the whole address conformation rubish too, but sometimes they have what you want and cant do without. Ginis tend to have advertised items they no longer have but other than that i have had no troubles with them and their delivery cost and time is pretty good.

i'm with Jarvi and wait for Gini's to start again. her tyres are good prices and she dosn't rip on postage.
i only use the UK stores (mainly vert-ego) if it's absolutely necessary due to the high costs of the parts and postage.

I've always used Gini and she has been great. Not accepting yet though.
The UK guys have lots of great stuff but the prices are ridiculous. I have gotten stuff from Vert-ego no worries before. DX lever took 4 days to get here !!!!
