Import taxes on bikes from USA - BMX Museum

I was thinking of buying a bike from the BMXmuseum.com forum from the USA.
Has anyone else bought one from this forum? - Of course you must have. There are so many awsome bikes.
I just wanted some feedback on what your experiences has been and in particular, do you get hit with any customs or import taxes. I would have thought so but thought I better check.

I think that there is a tax on anything over $1000. The best way is to get the guy at the other end to box seperately and have the values under $1000.

Phil is correct. Have the guy send the bike in two boxes, its cheaper. You only pay import tax on $1000 up. I have bought in completes from the US and the postage can be high. The last bike I bought from there cost me $275 in postage. Same price I paid for the bike. It was a Kuwahara tho

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah it is expensive postage but I think $750 AUD for a 09 Retro style SE racing Quadange in excellent condition including postage is worth it. The bikes them selves are very cheap compared to what I see locally and there are heaps which you just never see here.
Wanted to buy - Quadange, PK Ripper, GT, Skyway - Original Restored, or new Retro style. If there is one locally - I will be interested.

I remembered seeing this bike for sale, I know it is a bit late for this one (sold) but it will give you an idea what is about from time to time. Very nice PK

OK - I didnt do my research. I have been riding mountain bikes for the last 20 years. Maybe its a mid life crisis but I thought its time to get back to my BMX roots and remember what its all about. I didnt realize that SE racing are coming back in a big way in Australia. Probably bigger than they were in the 80's. Goldcross cycles seems to be the biggest local distributor and the prices are definitely pretty good. I think I will go local.
Thanks - and I will find Radness again ....
