Hi all, just found these forums whilst searching for some info on my bmx...

Can anyone help with identifying this bike. I think I got it for xmas or birthday back in the mid to late 80s and was my first bmx. I'm thinking its nothing special, but I restore cars not bikes. I was going to rebuild it when I was in my teens but didnt, and now i'm 27 and its still in the shed.

Pink wheels are original, had white hand grips, pedals and brake levers. Brake pads were white but at some stage were replaced with black ones hence the black band around the wheel. Wheels are some form of plastic. Also had a white chain guard. It had a tuff life and I'm suprised it hasnt colapsed.

Is it worth getting it rideable again.... ?

Hi, welcome to the site.

It looks like a Southern Cross, going by the head tube decal. I'm pretty sure Repco were the distributors for these. The rims are probably Marlin Z Rims, made in Australia. Check the rims to see if there is any stamping.

Cool you've got your original bike still. Nice one.

Cheers,

I think your right, from memory it was a southern cross. I went through some old photo albumns but couldnt find any pics of it. No branding on the wheels that I could see. I'm going to peice it back together, but am missing a lot of parts. Will need new wheels aswell. Might have to find some tuffs for it....
Any tips on sourcing parts ? Basically whats there is what I have, plus front brake hand lever, and broken caliper?? setup...

Hey it's cool you have most of your stuff. You can rebuild it quite easy with what you have. Is the front Z rim red? If so I have a single red rim here for the rear if you don't have one. Most parts are sourced through ebay. Type in bmx and go for it. A lot of stuff can be found in garage sales and tip shops. You can buy Tuffs brand new still from Coloredtuffs.com .

Thanks for the replies guys... I have stripped the bike back to a bare frame. The frame just fits inside my blasting cabinet so I have decided to rebuild and repaint it. Seeing as its not worth anything more than sentimental value, i'm going to change the colour scheme..... Teal frame, forks and bars, with white wheels, grips, brakes and pedals etc.... I will start a new post in the resto section when I get a few more pics together...

oldschoolisbetter - what van do you drive ?

Hi Mon_aro.

I'm down in mexico on the coast.... Polishing i've got covered, had plenty of practice doing that on my car resto's. Its mainly knowing where to buy some new parts. Like brake cables, a white chain, chain link tool, new white pedals or can you dissasemble old ones so I can blast and paint ? White plastic seat and post.....
Cheers

Oldschoolisbetter - cool! Just sold my 78 HZ sandman in supermint green with 253 4spd.

Yeah you can pull them apart, be carefull not to loose the bearings, they will most likely just be loose ball without a cage. I noticed you have 2 sets of pedals, if your planing on using the plastic ones, take care with the blaster as they are easly damaged, if your going with the alloy ones maybe you could polish the centers and just paint the cage part, that would look real trick.
How far down the coast are you, Im in Melbourne, Cheers

Nice, I'm currently in Ocean Grove but moving up to the cbd sometime next year.
The plastic ones I repainted many moons ago, they are pretty average though. I will look into polishing the cast units.... I'm going to head to some tip shops to source some bikes/parts....hopefully find some radness  Wink
