Minto was a cool track. I would have loved to race there more. Unfortunately it was a fair hike from Baulkham Hills. My parents never took me anywhere.

...it was a fair hike from Baulkham Hills. My parents never took me anywhere.

My parents didnt support my racing much either, but I still hit every Saturday afternoon club day at Minto, till I got my licence at 17.

Heres the drill.
Rode from home (Seven Hills) to Seven Hills train station.  25+ mins.
Train from Seven Hills to Lidcombe.  40+ mins (approx).
Change trains - usually a 15 to 30 minute wait.
Train from Libcombe to Minto.  Another 40 mins.
Ride from Minto train station to Minto track.  20+ mins (it was pretty much all up hill.).
Dor to door, most days it took about 2 hours.
Raced hard.
Do it all again to get home.  By that time its pretty dark.
BMX passion.  We did what we had to do.

How's this one?

Thats the old Matterhorn, which was cut down to a mid-corner tabletop.
Is that Tony "Gidone" Hancox in the background?

hey guys..yeah that was graham stewart...i recognise his helmet...all us plebs could afford were the cheapass ones...but, back in the day....graham and james had all the bling...lol...i remember the first time we built the mountain jump out of the s bends at Minto and Graham had to be the first to jump...man...lol..he landed face first and scuffed that helmet badly...
some of the best times aka 1981 was hanging was Keirin Hood and all of the crew going across the street to play chasings in between motos at the school.
yeah Billy...that is me in the background of ur photo with the black openface..man..i didn't even recognise myself...F### i'm ugly...hahaha..lucky the plastic surgeon of the 90's fixed me up. I was riding a Race inc there where graham stewart had brought me back a Race Inc jersey from the states....I thought i was the shit!!

mate , i dont think old school bmx would have been half the fun if we all didnt go through the hassle of getting to race days or practicing at that "hot new track " after word got around!.
i can remember catching the train from liverpool to penrith & riding from penrith station to shane robbo's track for about 2 1/2 hours riding before having to go back again. one whole day gone.
we did an exhibition race at granville speedway circa 1980, caught the train there , bucketed down with rain rode in the clay
& on the infield still muddy, then caught the last train home covered in that clay shit from the speedway track! poor railway cleaners.........man i used to ride from our place near metrowest
to guildford to mow my grannys lawn just to get the pocket money to be able to race!
all the best rob w.
hey simon & tim ward , must be time for a bbq?
