This is part of a message I received from another friend of Dean's.

'Hi Tim,
Dean just rang me from the John Hunter hospital, He's asked me to send you a message to let you know that last Tuesday afternoon he broke both of the bones just below the knee in his right leg and has also shattered the knee (there about 20 separate pieces of bone showing in the X-Rays)

He was in the Emergency ward at Taree until Wednesday afternoon when they finally arranged a bed for him in Newcastle and he was transferred to the John Hunter by ambulance just after 5:00 PM
He says that the doctors are saying it may be the middle of next week before the swelling in the leg goes down enough for them to be able to operate on him.

When Sharie first told me how much damage he'd done, I thought he'd done it while riding one of the trails, but it was nothing like that, He did it during an awkward dismount while stepping off the bike.'

Hope you are on the mend and it's not too painful Dean.  Anyone up that way that can go and cheer him up?

Hope all goes well for Dean. As we all get older, we don't heal as quick either lol.

Thanks for that Tim, and thanks for the thoughts guys,  yeah i'm slowly mending.
I have a frame set up round my leg atm with 17 pins and a couple of screws in my leg as well.
I'll be sorting out a blog to show what exactly happened to me; the pics are pretty gross but it gets the idea across.
I'll be online from time to time but am not in a condition to be sitting at the pc for too long at a time.
I'm a very lucky boy from all accounts as if the doctors did what they wanted to in the first place there would have been an 80% chance i would have lost my leg just above the knee.....thank god for modern medicine and the doctor who told them not to go ahead till he sussed out a different method.
