That's me, Funny one thing that has stuck in my mind is that alistair often rode in desert boots..........and there they are..........must try a pair myself next time I'm on a bike! Smiley

That was a schwinn sting that I built up in the states. It had these funky shimano cranks that had a revolving barrel where the pedal screwed in so I could adjust the length up to 180mm. Loved that bike and no idea what I did with it!

I will see what I can find in the way of photos to add to the mix, where is that old album?

Chris James ! No way ! Its Damon, send me a  message would be good to talk after all these years.
I know what happened to your Schwinn Sting, you sold it to Chuck May from Invada and Rodney Bewley rode it for a while then it dissapeared.

Hi Damon

Can't believe that you remember where that Schwinn went, I had completely forgotten that it went to Chuck May. I remember my large BB JMC went back to Turramurra Cycles back when John Carrol and Grant Elliot ran it. The euro bb JMC should be back from the painters this week.

Fancy getting together for a beer or a bike ride to catch up at some stage? I will send you a PM to try and t something up.

Have attached a photo below of Mr Jamie, Dean, little Adam? Crisp and myself at the titles at Ryde, hope it shows up

WOW! I have just been introduced to this awesome website. So many memories flooding back of the characters I used to ride against. I raced at Ryde through the years of 1982 and 1983 but rode there socially many many other times. I left racing on a high winning the open championship trophy for 1983 along with half a dozen other podium trophies.
I was just looking at the trophy actually and noticed it came from Warwick Scruze's trophy shop. As I recall he was the starter most of the time I raced and was a regular at scrutineering. I remember buying a copy pair of vans from him too! I am pretty sure he had a pretty fast son that raced often.
I raced through 2 versions of the track, I think the second and third versions as from the pictures I have seen on this thread I don't recognise the first track. I remember admiring Damon Bevan and how blatantly fast he was and was glad he wasn't in my age group. I remember another guy in the age group below me called Glen who rode a PK Ripper. He was soooo smooth and damn fast too.
I also remember an older guy called 'O D' who was a funny guy, used to ride cruiser class from memory. Was a bit of a hippie and a strage guy but good for a laugh.
I was only on another forum (motorbike) today talking about my old bikes and a guy posted the link to this site. I used to ride a Quicksilver that I got from Westleigh cycles with JMC Darryl Young bars that I bought from Turramurra cycles. I stupidly traded it on a mountain bike back in the 90's and regretted doing it the very next day. I tried getting the bike back but it just disappeared from the shop.
Anyway, enough rambling and I hope I haven't bored you guys too much. I really look forward to following this site more closely.

shattered my L3, L4, L5 disks, popped them all the way into my spinal cord , they had to operate and removed my disks so they are slowly fushin as Im 9ettin older.  I can still surf well as been doin it for 30 years, but had a stack on my road bike today and slid across the road and oh my, my back is like a hammer has bashed it.  I still have a little pain when the weather has chan9es.

I know if I race I will just tear in, im to old school and loved bumpin bars and wont be able to hold back, its just how i raced.  Im to competitive for my own health with my back.
