I am trying to recreate my old dragster BMX from the 70s.
I have:
*A lugged dragster frame, to be spray bombed of course.
*Tange 1200 forks painted black
*Steel rims similar to what I had BITD
*No name bars as i had back then
*Stem will be home made, not the same as I had then, but I tried making one in metal work at school, so this is what I would have liked BITD.
*Coaster brake hub.
*Steel front hub.
*Either a quilted seat or a bmx one, I went from the quilted to the bmx one BITD. Have both.

Anyway I can't for the life of me remember what the grips looked like, they were not proper bmx ones but were rubber not plastic, any suggestions of what was around for normal bikes in the late 70's early 80s for kids bikes?

flangeless, knurled on one side with glitter through the plastic? I see them on some 12inch kids bikes.

MX grips were very popular Tim. You need to tape up the throttle side as they are bigger. This is what we did back then. You can still buy oldschool mx grips on ebay.
Yours sounds like a gragster I'm about to start on.
This is the front wheel for it. All 70's steel baby.

Will be all steel wheels and frame too. Femco wheels and I think I'll spray bomb them too.
Just cant afford to do other stuff anymore its gotten out of my budget now i have debt again Smiley
Will look for MX grips thanks, I'm thinking that might of been what I had, of the old mini bike.
thanks
