G'day fellow bmx tragics.
My name is Tim Mackie. I'm 43, and just came across this site.
I used to race aged 11 - 15. My home track was Menai. I also raced at Liverpool Speedway most friday nights. Raced at Minto, Blacktown, Nowra etc when i could coax my folks into it!
I notice a few familiar names her: Phil Kaye & Scotty Lynch were my age group. I remember you guys.
I had a JMC Black Shadow those days (wish i still had that!!). Also raced a chrome molly side-hack which my Dad made. It was a replica of my JMC, powder coated black. It was very light and quick (for the day). We still have it!!
My dad made the "Mac-Rac" bkie carriers. We were right into the bmx for a few years, until we moved and i got into motorbikes, then jetskis, cars, cars, marriage, more cars, kids etc etc.

I am restoring my old 1981 GT 26" cruiser - which we've had since new.
My son (10 this year) is keen to start racing, so i've decided to dust off the old cruiser (and body) and get back to the track.
We live at Menangle (near Camden) so our local track is Kirkham/Elderslie.

I hope to catch up with some of you sometime.
cheers,
Tim.

Haha, yeah the seat was the first thing to come off!

When my dad bought the bike in '81, he didn't want one of those hard uncomfy seats, like i had on my bike (a UNI seat if i remember right)! So he got that tractor seat put on....

The chrome has come up pretty good after oxalic acid and a good polish. I used a bar of copper to scrape rust left behind after acid bath - it worked well.
Polished up with autosol and it looks ok. I'd rather keep it original, with it's blemishes, that re-chrome.

Won't have it back together for this saturday, but i'll probably still got to Kirkham with my son for a look around.

Welcome Tim.
You know there's a good chance you dad bought that GT cruiser off one of the members here (Samurai), he was also the Oakley man so he may drift by later & he will no doubt hit u up if u want to sell him that 26" back.
He has the bug & now after around 3 years of collecting has 9 GT's lol.
Cheers Troy

Hey Tim, if you have any Oakley suspenders you could find yourself rich cause Waz (Samurai) will pay heaps for a set!!  Grin And don't worry about what guys say, he isn't that grumpy. Bark is worse than his bite!!  Evil
