Hi there,
I have a frustrating problem and wondering if someone could advise me on my options.

I have just completed a bike project and am very happy with the end result with the exception of 1 thing....

My bike has green Tuff II's with NOS pink, cheap brand, skin wall tyres - size 2.125
Despite using the correct size tube (to fit 1.95-2.125) the tyre will not stick to the rim when i inflate the wheel and will pop out from the rim.
For some reason this only happens to one of the tyres (front) - hence the frustration.

Any advice? Tips? Hints?

(I am thinking that that tyre has just wapred out of shape over time because when it is not fitted on the wheel it naturally curves so that the two edges touch each other)

Thanks,
Nic.

Sky way has always had problems with tires seating right. I have troubles with cheap tires. Try putting baby powder in the rim section. It's supposed to help. Graphites were known for this bitd as well. I had all sorts of dramas with mine. Other than checking as you inflate it slowly I would look for better tires.
Phil will say get alloys too. Never mind him...

Also be wary of tyre pressure i found anything past 40 lbs to be sketchy with tuffs.

Try pumping it up a bit then roll around on the bike to try and get the tyre to grab the rim.  Of course you need enough air so the rim doesn't touch the ground, but not too much that it can't move.

As one who suffered two blowouts in one day as Ashmore trying to reduce a bit of flex I concur about not going anyway past 40psi.  Scared the crap out of me as I was sitting in staging waiting for gate practice and BANG.

And I'm surprised some-one hasn't suggested putting the tyre that is on the back wheel and move it to the front.  Should fix the front one no problem...

Put the Tuffs and tyres in the freezer. That'll fix it. ;-)

OK...sensible answer now! I had a similar problem with my Diamond Back. I put the minimum amount of air in to keep the tyre in it's proper shape. It was still movable, so I massaged it into shape by spinning the wheel slowly and pushing any high spots down. Then add a little more air and do the same thing. Repeat until it sits right, then inflate to high 30's.
Hope this helps more than my tongue-in-cheek response above!!

Hi Sparrow
For what it's worth,I have similar trouble when putting Intense micro knobbies on my cruiser rims.
The tyres appear a little large.
I put about 15lb of air in and physically check the tyre on the rim and anything out of shape is
whacked by hand onto the rim.
I then progressively pump to desired pressure.

If the tyre is suss, bin it.

BITD I never had tyre roll off my tuffs, both standard and graphites.
