So I've been wanting to do a 70's roots style bmx with a dragster frame for yonks. I'm at the tip shop today and see a new retro "bratz" chinese made lowrider. It has a US BB and as far as I can tell is very close to a Schwinn. It looks real short so I told Tobes he can do it up and ride it. Cruiser of sorts. So he got stuck in. I helped with the paint and the tight bolts and he done the rest. He wanted to paint it in a "boys" color so mattblack it was!
I'm lookin' for an old Win stem and a banana seat/sissy bar and we're done. It will be borrowing the Motomags for a while too !!
It's gonna look pretty cool.

You've inspired me Glenn. Thought about doing a version of my first dragster that was converted toa BMX. Of course I'm not going to bother replicating the scars on my ankles from the cotter pins. A US bb would have been cool back then.

I know what you mean James. My monoshock has a euro BB so I used steel 3 piece cranks instead of the cotters. I'm going to chop it out and put a US bb in the there as well. Grin
All my mates at school had a dragster converted into a bmx. I had a 10 speed Malvern Star. It was great until bmx caught on. My parents couldn't afford another bike so I was stuck with it. By the time I could buy my own stuff geese were out and thats what I got.

I had a Bennet 10 speed as well. Must have kept the dragster when I got the 10 speed, can't remember. Classic case of always wanting something you didn't have though as when we would go riding at the school the guys with 10 speeds would swap with the dragster guys.

Don't think I'll bother bebuilding that one though. Boring brown and of course I'd need to run it into a parked trailer again to get the slight bend in the forks. Head down pedalling away and not looking where I was going.

Now is Rohan going to try and claim a trademark on the matt black colour. Damn Aussies always copying things.

No I only heard JC was in Bundy. Bugger never told me. I'll call him this week. I was planning to go up there next weekend anyway.

The springer forks have gone to Oldschool Roy in brissy. I have more than enough projects without another one.

Gnarley, no stickers mate. maybe a Fox sticker or a Yamaha one. Stickers were'nt a big thing on our bikes in the 70's.
