Shimano alloy annodised cassette hubs with 3 spline cogs-are these DX?
Shimano painted cassette hubs with 9 spline cogs, stamped VIA-are these DX as well?
The SHimano ads Ive seen dont show the hubs clearly enough for me to be certain.
Does anyone know for sure?

I always thought the 9 spline was the DX. I can't be 100% sure.

OK Now I just checked two different ads. One had hubs like this ad and the other ad the hubs had nine splines. So yeah 9 is the amswer to your question. Or screw on.  Huh?

Those silver series hubs are SMOOTH.  I have a couple of sets and they are real nice.

Do these bits from the Shimano catalog help?

Some good stuff there guys!! great info Smiley

Also for those including myself that have been wondering what the "VIA" stood for i found this on wikipedia site:

VIA

"VIA" is stamped on all Shimano parts, it is an official approval stamp used to certify parts of Japanese vehicles - including bicycles. This mark signifies compliance with certain quality standards, and is similar to the "UL" (Underwriters Laboratories) mark.

"VIA" stands for "Vehicle Inspection Authority".
