Hey guys, my first time on here. I have decided to restore my Old Diamondback BMX for my son for when he gets a bit older.
i was just wondering if anyone can confirm the year my BMX was made?
The serial number is 1K0366 with the tennis ball on the end.
I was thinking this means it's a Japanese model and 1 meaning its the first model so it is a 1979 model?
I look forward to reading through these forums and see what parts i can source for the old girl,
I just hope my son has as much fun on it that I did!

Hey Benny welcome to the site. If you could, can you post up some pics of her to help us out in the identification. Also you can have a look on www.bmxmuseum.com

Thanks for the info Phil, I think I have figured out that it is a 1981 model going off the ones on the bmx museum website.
I will take some photos tomorrow when its not raining and there is daylight.

Hi Benny. Have a look on this site too. One of our aussie boys is on this site and he might be able to help out.
Sorry I can't help you out.

Here is a picture of its current state.
It has DB neck and seat pole clamp, Suzue hubs, alloy rims, shimano brakes.
Not sure on the brand of forks or cranks, but the handle bars are some wide ones I put on when I was a kid.
My parents tried to sell it in a garage sale for $30, luckily no one boughtit, I would have been devastated!

Just wondering if I would be better off selling this to someone who would appreciate it more than a child would.
Any idea of how much it is worth? The chrome is a bit dull and there is a bit of surface rust on the inside of the diamond plates and on the top of the crank case.
There are a couple of hairline cracks on the diamond plate as well, coming from the back of the diamond point.
The cranks have Takagi Cro-Mo stamped into them.

Benny that looks like a pretty darn good survivor, it might be worth more as it is rather than restored.  I wouldn't mind a bike like that at all, rather than a pristine restored one.
It may be worth enough to get hold of a late model bike or one to fix up for the child, also if he wants to ride street and parks then that isn't really suited, get him rolling on a little 16 incher first I guess....(sending the DB to me would be much more suitable Smiley
I'd see what is around that era on Ebay and so on before you decide to do anything mate.
anyway the guys here know heaps and will help you no matter what you decide.

PS: I wish I'd been at the garage sale Smiley.

I am located in Hobart, looks like I will be selling it. There aren't a great deal on ebay at the moment from what I have seen, similar to mine at least.
